The private West Cambridge Social Library was established in 1807, and in 1835, this library’s collection was enhanced when Doctor Ebenezer Learned left $100 in his will to establish a juvenile library in West Cambridge. In 1837 the library became available to the public, and in 1892 a gift from Maria C. Robbins funded the construction of the Robbins Library, which has been home to the main branch of the Arlington Public Library ever since.
