While British troops were retreating from Concord on April 19, 1775, reinforcements left Boston and arrived in Menotomy in the early afternoon. At this location a group of colonists called the “Old Men of Menotomy,” exempted from militia service due to age, captured munitions wagons from the British reinforcements.
