Samuel Whittemore Marker

The Samuel Whittemore marker commemorates the heroic actions of a veteran and patriot on April 19, 1775 during the British retreat from Lexington and Concord. A veteran and active citizen of Menotomy, Samuel Whittemore confronted the British, killing at least 2 and sustaining several gunshot and bayonet wounds before being left for dead. Despite his advanced age and the severity of his wounds, he survived to live another eighteen years and  would live to see the independence of the colonies from the British. This is also where the paths of William Dawes and Paul Revere converge.
